Happy New Year 2010!
2010 - Wow, sounds like science fiction!
I know that 2009 was a year full of misfortune for a lot of folks.
For me, it was a year that reinforced my gratitude for the wonderful life that I have here in Maine. In no way do I take my good fortune for granted.
I know that good fortune can be fleeting, and that our lives can change in an instant. I've learned to enjoy and appreciate each moment for what it is, and I'm so grateful for the love and friendship that I have in my life, and for the opportunities that I've had to grow as a songwriter over the years.
To those who have been affected by the political, social, and economic upheavals that have occured these past few years, I can't presume to have an answer for you, but I hope that you can find strength and support from those people who are closest to you.
It's very easy to be positive when things are going well; I admire those of you who are facing challenges, but who still manage to keep a positive outlook and who still bring happiness into the lives of those around you!
I hope that 2010 is a year in which you find your way back to stability and security, and a year in which you can build for the future!
I'm very much looking forward to this coming year, in which I hope to make some significant progress toward my songwriting and music publishing goals. I hope you will come along on that journey, and check back to this website from time to time to see what I am up to. I'm always eager to hear your suggestions and comments on my songwriting! Email me anytime at bob at bobmckillop.com.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Two of my songs placed in a documentary film!
Two of my songs have been chosen for inclusion in a documentary film!
"Three Hours North of Bangor" is the film's opening song, and "Newspaper" plays behind the closing credits!
The film was produced by Dr. Sunny Skye Hughes, a professor of communications and journalism at The University of Maine at Orono. The documentary is entitled "The Way it Is - The State of Journalism in Maine", and it explores the state of journalism in four rural Maine communities.
I wrote both songs specifically for this film, based on information supplied by Dr. Hughes. I'm very grateful to Dr. Hughes for giving my songs such great spots in the film.
I asked Adam Frederick to produce "Three Hours North of Bangor", and he did a great job; it was recorded and mixed by Marc Bartholomew at Acadia Recording Company, and includes Adam on bass, Max Cantlin on electric guitar, and Phil McGowan on drums. I play acoustic guitar and sing.
Eric Bettencourt recorded and mixed "Newspaper", with the help of James Whalen, at Shadowshine Studios. Eric also played bass; Charles Gagne played drums, Ryan Cyr sang the vocals, and Kevin Midgley played dobro. Eric and Kevin also get some of the songwriting credit on this tune. (I don't perform on this track - strictly the songwriter!)
You can hear both tracks by clicking on the "Songs" link on the main menu above;
Dr. Hughes solicited music for the film exclusively from Maine artists; besides my two tunes, there are songs by Aly Spaltro, Jeff Trippe, Chriss Sutherland, Fire by Fire, Brian Patricks.
You can view all eight parts of the documentary at this webpage:

I hope you enjoy the tracks!
All the best
