During McKillop's tenure at Davidson, he took the Wildcats from competing independently to the Big South Conference, before becoming the flagship of the Southern Conference and later pushing Davidson into the Atlantic 10 as a result of his storied success.

McKillop led Davidson to 17 seasons with 20 wins or more and pushed the 'Cats to 21 consecutive winning seasons, just one of seven programs in the country to do so at the time of his retirement.
